The 2010 AIBs – international media excellence awards – 2 Pakistanis honoured among the panel of judges from Pakistan.

In 2010, the AIBsthe international media excellence awards – will once again celebrate creativity and reward success in factual programming. These awards – now in their sixth year – are unique in the field of international media.

The AIBs offer both peer and external review of entries and are also independent of any commercial influence. The AIBs are highly respected in the international TV and radio industry. This is reflected in the large number of high quality entries that are submitted by broadcasters and independent production houses on every continent. These companies recognise that winning an AIB is an important – and rare – accolade.

The 2010 AIBs will be presented during a gala evening at LSO St Luke’s in London on 10 November. We are returning to this stunning venue due to overwhelming positive feedback from last year’s guests.

We’re engaging on a major promotional drive starting in the second quarter of 2010 to bring the AIBs to the attention of even more broadcasters and production companies in all parts of the world than ever before. The Association for International Broadcasting (AIB) has also announced the judges for the AIB’s International Media Excellence Awards 2010.This year the AIB has selected two of the judges from the Pakistani media industry. The AIB has honoured Amir Jahangir, CEO Mishal (Private) Limited and Naveen Naqvi, a leading journalist and a private producer/anchor from Pakistan.

The judges are respected professionals from broadcasting and related industries and include journalists, broadcasting executives, technologists and industry specialists. They represent 18 different countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, Middle East, North America and Oceania.

Entries for the AIBs close on 2nd July (UPDATE : entry deadline now extended to 1600 GMT on July 16th) and the judges will then be working on the short list to determine the winners and recommended entries to be announced at the AIBs awards ceremony on 10th November in London.

The judges for the which consists of 20 leading international media and business representatives from across the world also include a leading Pakistani media professional, Amir Jahangir, Chief Executive Officer SAMAA TV.

This is the second time that a Pakistani media professional has been selected as part of a judge panel by the Association for International Broadcasting. The International Media Excellence Awards (IMEA) will be presented at a gala evening on Wednesday 4th November 2009 in London, UK. The event is held each year by the AIB, who are renowned for their independent assessment of quality, using external and peer review by respected professionals from the broadcasting and wider media industries.

The judges have a vast range of experience in different aspects of broadcasting and are drawn from all over the world.

The AIBs are independent and attract entries from throughout the world, representing the best of international radio and TV. The sixteen different categories cover the broad spectrum from single news events to long-term investigation and from traditional terrestrial broadcasting to innovative use of multi-platform formats.

Speaking about the inclusion in the judges’ panel, Amir Jahangir said that “being part of this elite judges’ panel for the second year is not only a great milestone for the Pakistani media industry, as it not only manifests the dynamics behind the emergence and development of media in Pakistan but also highlights the important role the industry is playing in the geo-political development in the South Asian region. The selection gives a great sense of achievement; however our achievement lies more in the fact that we will be representing Pakistan on an international forum and positioning our country and industry among the top media and business people in the world.”

Amir Jahangir also said that “No doubt that given the task that Mishal is undertaking in Pakistan, our initiatives in bringing innovation into the Pakistani information ecosystem. This has played a crucial element in the selection, however, this is just the beginning. Mishal (Pvt.) Limited will strive towards our ambition to create a more responsible Pakistani media working as a partner for scial, economic and political empowerment and sustainable development of Pakistan. ”

In March 2010, the Festival of Media in Valencia ranked Amir Jahangir among s the top 10 media professionals in the world. Mr. Jahangir has also played a crucial role in improving health and social sector reporting from Pakistan and linking in media with the development issues impacting the society at large.
