QUETTA, Oct 7: A seminar was held here on Monday on the role of journalism in promoting evidence-based health policy for reducing child mortality and malnutrition in Balochistan.

Held in University of Balochistan’s journalism department, the seminar was organised by Save the Children’s Every One Campaign in collaboration with Mishal Pakistan with the support of Research and Advocacy Fund (RAF).

The objective of the seminar was to raise awareness about the importance of child health and the impact of malnutrition on the children under five years of age, generally in Pakistan and particularly in Balochistan.

Speaking on the occasion, member of Balochistan Assembly Nasrullah Zeere called for promoting awareness about child health.

The chairman of the journalism department, Yousaf Masih said that media and civil society had a great role to play for creating awareness about the child health. He said they should continue asking the government to make child health their priority.

Chief Operating Officer of Mishal Pakistan Asif Farooqui said that more than 350,000 children die in the country every year before their fifth birthday.
