ISLAMABAD: Pakistan has made a considerable movement in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index, stated the fifth travel and tourism competitiveness report released on Thursday by the World Economic Forum.
The biennial report, published under the theme of ‘reducing barriers to economic growth and job creation’ highlighted the country’s improving performance on 14 indicators.
Pakistan progressed on the indicator of education and training from 134 in 2011 to 125 in 2013. Work force availability clinched 79th position this year as against 100th in the comparable year, indicating a return of skilled labours from Middle East and other countries.
Amongst the areas, where Pakistan showed poor performance, are policy rules and regulations. On this indicator, the country’s ranking dropped from 106 in 2011 to 120 in 2013, while in
terms of prioritising of travel and tourism, it secured 131st rank in 2013 as compared to 121st in 2011.
