Call for creating awareness among masses about child nutrition

PESHAWAR – Participants at a seminar stressed the need for creating awareness among the masses about child nutrition as one-third of children deaths were caused due to malnutrition while around 48 per cent households were confronting food insecurity problem in Pakistan.

“Pakistan is among the three countries in the world where polio endemic menace is existed and there is dire need to investment in health,” said Dr Fazl Nasir, General Secretary, Peshawar University Teachers Association (PUTA) while speaking at the seminar held here at the University of Peshawar on Monday.

The seminar titled ‘The role of journalism in promoting evidence-based health policy for reducing child mortality and improving maternal health’ arranged by Mishal Pakistan and Save the Children, NGOs in collaboration with Peshawar University Teachers’ Association (PUTA).

The basic purpose of briefing was to create awareness about “Every One” campaign of “Save the Children”.
The cause is about to increase health and nutrition programmes on the ground to ensure an increase in access, quality and coverage of maternal, newborn, child health and nutrition services.

A representative of NGO Adnan said that every year nearly three million babies die in the first month of their lives, mostly from preventable diseases while more than a million others die on their first day of their lives.

He emphasized for the role of media to enhance focus on health issues and play its role in promoting awareness among masses about health of newborns.
